Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 26: Featuring Mark Morgan (Dummy)!
July 1, 2022So they call a trainer a “sneaker”, a few minutes a “quibi”, and a podcast “the only podcast on Spotify about Anna Kendrick’s filmography”?
That’s right! In today’s episode of Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Pierre and Jeff are joined by eloquent British man and Minding the Gap enthusiast Mark Morgan to talk about Dummy, a ten-episode limited series for the 2020 streaming service Quibi!
But first: what was Quibi? Helmed by Meg Whitman and enemy-of-the-show Jeffrey Katzenberg, Quibi was a streaming service designed for phones, with content delivered in 10-minute or less chunks. Does that sound like a bad idea? I wouldn’t be so sure! Tune in to get our thoughts on the merits of Quibi, as well as why it ultimately went belly-up.
Of course, this wouldn’t be an Anna Kendrick podcast if we didn’t also dicuss our favourite actor’s foray into the short-form streaming market. In Dummy, Kendrick plays Dan Harmon’s girlfriend, Cody, who has a fateful encounter with her partner’s sex-doll. Written by Cody Heller with a tone somewhere between Wilfred and Rick and Morty, Dummy dramatizes a real event involving Heller, Harmon, and a sex doll, using it as a framing device for one woman’s journey of self-discovery.
At only 76 minutes, Dummy is the shortest film we’ve talked about on this podcast! Heck, it’s shorter than this episode!
