The Golden Bin Awards!
March 16, 2021In the lead up to the Academy Awards, I regularly take part in an informal event known as the Oscars Death Race. The goal of the Oscars Death Race is to watch every movie nominated for an Academy Award in the lead up to the awards.
In addition to participating in the death race, I’ve written a series of articles for The Phoenix News by the same name, detailing my thoughts on some of the nominees, as well as some movies that were snubbed. Two years ago, it was a series of eight articles. Last year, it was eleven articles. This year, you will be able to find six articles over on thephoenixnews.com.
However, the scope of these articles has not diminished, as the original plan for this year was to write articles about fifteen categories. These articles will still be written and can be found on this website under the banner of the Golden Bin Awards!
The Golden Bin Awards will recognize outstanding achievements in fifteen categories from those nominated for Oscars. Every other weekday starting next week, you can check this website to see another winner of a Golden Bin with accompanying write-up, which will generally be my personal pick for which nominee ought to get that Oscar this year. Will you be surprised by my choices? I hope so!
Accompanying the Golden Bin Award, I will also spotlight a Runner-Up, recognizing a notable snub – something I think ought to have been nominated, but was regrettably ignored by the Academy. Why doesn’t the Academy like I’m Thinking of Ending Things, or Preparations to be Together for an Unknown Period of Time? I don’t know, and I probably can’t even speculate, but I sure as heck can tell you why you should see them!
