Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse exploded into theatres in winter of 2018 and made waves throughout the animation industry. Opening to critical acclaim and commercial success, Spider-Verse would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, sweep the Annies, and usher in a new golden age of mixed 2D/3D hybrid animation. Not even 5 years later the influence of Spider-Verse is felt in animated films from nearly every active studio.
With the sequel Across the Spider-Verse around the corner, Pierre and Jeff revisit the movie that started it all and share some of their thoughts on Sony Animation, Lord and Miller, and what Spider-Man means to them.
