Classic Movies Live – Season 4, Episode 41: Mad Max: Fury Road
November 8, 2023On Classic Movies Live!, it’s customary for our hosts to, occasionally, talk about a true, certified classic. On today’s episode, Pierre and Jeff are joined by Bhavna Sharma, one half of the Bloody Broads to talk about just such a film: Mad Max: Fury Road!
Released in 2015, Fury Road took the world by storm. The first Mad Max film in 30 years, Fury Road featured a complete cast reset, with Tom Hardy taking over as Max Rockatansky, joined by Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa and Nicholas Hoult as Nux the Warboy. Fury Road is a pure adrenaline rush from start to finish, with each of the leads turning in career-best performances, while also cementing composer Junkie XL as an essential voice in cinematic scoring. The film would go on to be nominated for 10 Oscars — beaten only by The Revenant in number of nominations — winning 6, the most of any movie at that year’s ceremony.
Did Fury Road deserve the acclaim? Does it hold up 8 years later?
The short answer is “absolutely. Without a doubt.”
For the long answer, you’ll have to tune in as Pierre, Jeff, and Bhavna dissect this classic movie… live*!
