This week on Classic Movies Live! we’re talking about one of the most iconic chick flicks ever made! Or, well, more accurately, the sequel to that movie.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees the return of Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt in a movie about life at the heights of modern fashion journalism! Twenty years after the events of the first movie, Andy (Hathaway) is a successful journalist in New York, whose position is unceremoniously cut as she’s about to win an award. In a stroke of suspicious luck, Andy is offered the position of Feature Editor at her old haunt, Runway, still under the leadership of the impossibly vain Miranda Priestley. Once again a newbie at Runway, Andy has to work her way up the chain, regaining Miranda’s respect and hopefully saving Runway from bankruptcy along the way.
In many ways, The Devil Wears Prada 2 resets the status quo and treads similar ground to the first movie. And yet, the film updates the commentary on journalism for the 2020s. Our hosts talk about billionaires in media in this episode of Classic Movies Live!
